Sweepstakes. Contests. Game Shows.
Why do we play? Is it for the prizes? The glory? The tiaras?
Sure, all those things are wonderful. But I think the reason we play is because winning just feels good. Even if it the award is something as small as having your name announced in public, or having your homemade preserves chosen for the blue ribbon--we love that rush that comes with knowing our skill, dedication, and luck have paid off.
As we go about our daily grind, there's that little seed of possibility in the back of our mind, reminding us that, because we made the effort and entered the contest, we have the possibility of winning. A five minute "vacation" as we fantasize about what we'll do when we win is enough to keep most of us motivated throughout even the hardest work day. And what happens if we lose? No big deal. There's always another opportunity around the corner.
What is something you've won in the last year?
